As the trend for fun socks has grown, we have been able to explore more and more “wild” patterns and cute motifs. It’s been such a fun journey and the wilder designs are certainly exciting to work on, but I found I was really missing the simplicity of spots and stripes.
If you haven’t yet browsed my paper goods collection, or seen my recent posts on social media, we have five brand new greeting cards in stock! I thought I’d show them to you here and tell you a little about the inspiration behind each one.
Since rekindling my sewing journey over the past few weeks, the Cape Robin fabric I printed for pillow cases for FEAT. has popped into my head a few times (featured below with our striped knee-highs). I have a few metres left since planning my pillow case run, and I’ve been trying to think about what I could use them for. From about the age of seven, I loved stitching of all kinds. My mom initially taught me to hand sew and cross-stitch, and then I went on to try my hand at embroidery and even a little machine work on my mom’s old Singer machine. In high school, I chose to specialise in fashion for my Design class, which is when my parents blessed me with my own sewing machine. When I sew, it unlocks so many other creative ideas for me, because it isn’t only limited to the field of clothing design. My mind begins to wander to homeware ideas and stitch art. I’m looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me, but for now here are two projects I’ve been working...
I’m also conscious of the fact that, as a woman living in 2021 being bombarded by diet culture and fitness fanaticism, I’ve been told to believe that if nothing in the shops suits me, I need to diet and exercise more to change myself for the trends. And that’s what I believed for a long time. But while browsing the shops last week it suddenly clicked for me: my body isn’t the problem, these clothes are.
