MY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

By Kaylin Pond Over the past three weeks I have been surrounded by the colourful and uniquely creative world of FEAT. socks co.   Starting out I wasn’t sure what to expect but it has been quite an exciting experience learning the ins-and-outs of this funky business. As a fashion student there is a wide range of possible careers that we have to consider and choose to go into, one of those options is to venture out and start your own business. Me, knowing the very basics of what it takes to set out on such a daunting task decided that interning would be a good start to widening my knowledge and what’s better than being around fun and vibrant socks...

"NEVER SAY NEVER"

by Sima Mpahla Since I joined the amazing FEAT. sock co. team (the cool brand that makes the happiest socks in Cape Town), I have decided to take on an attitude of 'never say never'! To begin with, my academic background may not be complementary to FEAT., but my passion to understand systems and my hunger to learn how a small business is run has helped a great deal. This past week, I was asked by 'Boss Lady' to model in a new sock photoshoot that will showcase our next range of socks. I was faced with the challenge of either declining the offer or taking up the exciting new prospect and seeing what might happen. I had all kinds...

HIKING TALES

By Sima Mpahla I have tackled a few hiking trails in my time. They seemed pretty easy on paper, a different story in reality. Living in the City of Cape Town, one can't ignore hiking Lions Head and summiting Table Mountain, crowned as one of the natural wonders of the world in the year 2012. Most tourists prefer to take the cable-cars to the top, but hey, where's the fun in that? Some people love the idea of conquering new mountains and summits. My motivation to hike isn't the summit, but rather, the process. I love the process of a group friends who have decided they want a little bit of adventure and have believed they are fit enough to...

THE VALUE OF SOCKS

By Sima Mpahla (a converted sock-aficionado) Generally, I have never regarded socks as a top fashion accessory. I never seem to keep a matching pair for long. Between the time I've done my laundry and packed my clothes, I've lost one sock. It was an embarrassment every time I had to wear non-matching socks (usually termed "John & Mary" where I grew up) in front of my friends. Then I met FEAT. socks...the happiest socks in Cape Town, and they changed my perspective on socks! I've grown to appreciate the creativity, time and effort put into conceptualising and designing a funky, quality pair of socks. My time spent at our shop in Muizenberg has given me a first-hand experience of...

SOCK OF THE WEEK - TRANSPORT SOCK

By Sima Mpahla Our pick of the week has to be the returning ' Transport sock'. South Africans, especially Capetonians, understand this sock was inspired by our 'not-so' reliable transport system. I'm not writing this post to highlight the inefficiencies of our transport system....that is reserved for the newspapers. FEAT. sock co. is in the business of designing playful, fun and storytelling designer socks. This particular pair evokes the rich stories of South Africans who use public transport on a daily basis, and I'm one of them. Lets start with the taxi: THE TAXI Who can forget the ever-impatient taxi-drivers who bend every rule of the road to get us to work early and maximise profit at the same time?...
